Dry Skin Over 50 Is Basically a Horror Film
Dry skin over 50 is like something out of a horror movie. Shedding like a snake, daily, and not really knowing why.
Estrogen low. Mood low. Skin somehow even lower.
So why does it happen, and what can you do about it?
Honestly… I’m still figuring that out.
I’ve tried castor oil, which sounds very wholesome until you realise you’re walking around with permanently sticky fingers. I’ve used massage oils that end up all over your clothes, your sofa, your life. And then there’s the classic “I’ll moisturise later,” which usually means never… especially when your legs haven’t seen daylight since 2004.
So you just… shed.
Quietly. Casually. Like it’s normal.
And I do wonder, do men sit around thinking about this? Do they notice their skin changing, flaking, shedding bits of their former selves? Or is that just something we carry, along with everything else?
Because it does feel like a kind of shedding, doesn’t it. Not just skin, but identity. You’re not quite who you were, but not fully whoever you’re becoming either. Just somewhere in between, moisturising occasionally and hoping for the best.
Now, I do have a few things I think help… or at least make me feel like I’m coping better.
I’ve started drinking mushroom coffee. Apparently it helps mood and mental health. I think it does… or maybe I just like the idea that I’m doing something good for myself.
Gummies… yes, I take them. But not the acidic ones because they made me absolutely lose the plot. I will never forget the night I thought I’d taken a nice calm CBD gummy, only to find myself walking on what I can only describe as disco lights in my bedroom. Turns out it was THC. My husband slept through the whole thing like a log, obviously.
Then there’s collagen gummies, which I was eating like sweets until I realised I was probably overdoing it. So now I’ve moved onto a collagen shake, which actually feels a bit more sensible. I can recommend one if you want, I’ll pop it in the link below.
But honestly, castor oil is probably your best bet. Yes it’s sticky, but it lasts longer than any moisturiser I’ve ever used. It just sits there doing its job, whether you like it or not.
So girls, stick with your mushroom coffee, your gummies for sleep and mood, and your castor oil for your legs.
We may be shedding…
…but we’re managing it.
And that, at this stage, feels like a win.
